TTWORBYTES PRESENTS
This Is My New Beginning
“Everything is changing. I just haven't decided whether I'm going to let it.”
My name is Jake Morrow. I'm twelve years old.
THE STORY
One Last Christmas. One Thirteenth Birthday. One New Beginning.
A funny and emotional story about change, growing up and discovering that moving forward does not mean leaving the people you love behind.
Jake is used to Jack, Alex and Ruby being at the centre of his world. But as things begin to change around him, he starts worrying that growing up might also mean growing apart.
Christmas brings the family together, but New Year is approaching—and so is the twins' thirteenth birthday. For Jake, turning thirteen feels less like an ordinary birthday and more like the end of everything familiar about being twelve.
As one chapter of his life comes to an end, Jake has to discover that a new beginning does not erase what came before. The people who matter can still move forward with him.
AT THE HEART OF THIS STORY
The Brother Who Is Always There
Whatever else changes, Jake and Jack are still twins—and Jake has to learn that growing older cannot change that.
“We're still twins tomorrow.” Jack makes it sound obvious. Maybe it is.
Jack has always been the person closest to Jake: his twin, his opposite in plenty of ways, and the person who has shared all the extraordinary days that brought them here.
Now Jake is frightened by the idea of change. Other friendships, new interests and growing independence can make it feel as though the people he loves are beginning to move in different directions.
Jack helps Jake see what he is missing. Becoming thirteen is a beginning, not a goodbye. Their lives can change without the bond between the brothers disappearing with Jake's twelfth year.
Meet the PeopleWHY THIS STORY MATTERS
Growing Up Without Leaving Anyone Behind
Jake has spent twelve books discovering how quickly an ordinary day can become anything but ordinary. Now the thing worrying him is much simpler: life is changing whether he is ready for it or not.
Christmas, New Year and the twins' approaching birthday make that change impossible to ignore. Jake cannot stay twelve simply because twelve is familiar.
But growing up does not require him to abandon Jack, Alex, Ruby or the experiences that have shaped him. A new beginning can carry all of those relationships forward rather than replace them.
As the final book in the This Is My... series, the story closes Jake's twelfth year while leaving him ready for whatever thirteen brings.
